No. If you want your url to be this "www.foobar.tiddlyspot.com" then you must create a site called "www.foobar". But note that on Tiddlyspot "www.foobar" and "foobar" are different sites.

An "export to.." dialog box keeps coming up

You are using the D3 flavour, and you have ~LazyAutoSave turned on. ~LazyAutoSave is a special feature of D3, and it's not connected with regular ~AutoSave. Click on "Configuration" in the left column to open the "Configuration Options" tiddler, and clear the checkbox next to "Use this checkbox to enable or disable "lazy" autosaving ...". Fixed!

This is the same problem as discussed in [[this other FAQ|"You need to save this TiddlyWiki to a file.." comes up whenever I edit a tiddler]], except the ~ExportTiddlersPlugin is installed in your wiki (it's incuded in d^^3^^). This plugin assumes that if you can't save-to-disk, you will want to export tiddlers, so it replaces the error described in that [[other FAQ|"You need to save this TiddlyWiki to a file.." comes up whenever I edit a tiddler]] with the export dialog.

Once you disable ~AutoSave, you won't see the Export Tiddlers dialog again until you call it up yourself.

Because of cross-site restrictions in XMLRequest you have to use the proxy service. The proxy url is this:
http://yoursiteid.tiddlyspot.com/proxy/http://theurl.youwant.com/etc/

Also an alternative method is to download your site, do your importing in the offline TiddlyWiki, then upload back to Tiddlyspot. Note also that you can't import from a local file to an online Tiddlyspot. For this you must also download/import/upload.

The proxy is configured to only allow access to certain sites. If there is a site that you would like added to the list then email support@tiddlyspot.com and we will consider it.

If you are using RssReaderPlugin then you also will need to use the proxy.

I made a Presentation TiddlyWiki and I can't get to author mode even when I put #author:true on the end of the url

There's an annoying browser thing where if you are already looking at a Presentation flavoured TiddlyWiki in non-author-mode, it's practically impossible to switch to author mode. Adding the author:true to the end of the URL usually doesn't //really// re-fetch the page.

If you start a new browser window or tab, paste the URL, and BEFORE HITTING ENTER add the #author:true bit. Once you've added the author bit, then hit enter (or click Go). That way you will always get to author mode.

While you are developing your Presentation site, it might save your sanity to put a link in your MainMenu to the full URL of your site with the author:true bit at the end. Then you can just click that link to load the site in author mode.

Not really (but see below).

What we call "flavours" are really just collections of plugins, stylesheets, and templates (all stored in tiddlers), so you can add and remove tiddlers from one flavour and end up with another flavour. In practice though, it's fairly difficult to get this right.

The more sane way to swap flavours is to just use your control panel to delete your site. Then once it's gone, you can re-create it, choosing a different flavour.

(p.s. Yes, where we come from, "flavour" really is the correct spelling.)

Yes, you can!

Here's how to do it:
* sign up for a standard tiddlyspot.com site.
* in two browser windows, open your new tiddlyspot TW and your existing TW.
* copy these tiddlers from your tiddlyspot.com TW into your existing TW:
** ''~UploadPlugin'': You need this to do the uploading to tiddlyspot. It's a plugin so //remember to tag it with "systemConfig"//.
** ''~AllowOnlineEdit'': This also needs a tag of "systemConfig" (you can skip this step if you're using ~MonkeyGTD, it already has a ~ConfigTweaks tiddler that does the same job).
** ''tiddlyspotControls'': This has all the password controls and whatnot that you need to use tiddlyspot. Do NOT tag this with systemConfig. If you want, you can also grab the "Welcome to your tiddlyspot.com site!" tiddler as well, but that's optional.
** ''~SideBarOptions'': we customise the sidebar to include some additional buttons. This is a shadow tiddler, find it under the Other -> Shadowed tab. If you've customised your own ~SideBarOptions, you can look at the tiddlyspot version to find out how to add the extra buttons yourself.
** ''~OptionsPanel'': we also customise the sliding options panel to include a place for your password. This is a shadow tiddler, find it under the Other -> Shadowed tab. Note that you can safely ignore any red "macro" errors that crop up in various places while you go through these instructions. They will show up because ~UploadPlugin isn't active until the end.

If you get a syntax error warning about tiddlyspotControls or ~SideBarOptions when you open your ~TiddlyWiki, you have probably mistakenly added the systemConfig tag to those tiddlers. Take it off - only the ~UploadPlugin and ~AllowOnlineEdit tiddlers need that tag.

Your tiddlyspot.com ~TiddlyWiki is stored at [[DreamHost|http://dreamhost.com]], so we suppose it's as safe as their servers are.

We do advise that users backup their data locally. Ie, download your site now and again. Luckily, tiddlyspot.com makes keeping a local copy easy.

==Note also that tiddlyspot.com does not save backups of your ~TiddlyWiki. If you accidentally delete a tiddler and then save to tiddlyspot.com, your deleted tiddler is gone forever. Another good reason to keep a local copy!==

My password doesn't work even though I know it's right

There is a known issue at the moment that certain characters (such as '+' or ';', maybe '%') in passwords cause problems with UploadPlugin. Until we have a fix for that problem, if you have any chars like that in your password and you can't save to web then send an email to support@tiddlyspot.com and we will reset your password. You can then change it to something else without those problem chars.

Usually this means your save worked fine but your browser is showing the cached version of your tiddlyspot site. You need to shift-reload, ie hold down shift and click reload in your browser. This will force your browser to go and fetch the page again.
